30.10.202609:45:09UTC+00Sri Lanka Producer Inflation Highest Since 2023

Producer price inflation in Sri Lanka accelerated to 6.9% year-on-year in September 2026, up from a revised 5.1% in August, reaching its highest level since May 2023. The rise was driven by broad-based cost increases, particularly in agriculture, where prices surged to 10.8% from 2.6%, and in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector, where inflation edged up to 24.5% from 23.9%. Manufacturing inflation also picked up (6.0% vs. 5.1%), mainly due to faster price growth in food products (6.0% vs. 2.8%) and in rubber and plastic products (13.6% vs. 13.1%). In contrast, price growth slowed in water collection, treatment and supply, easing to 2.5% from 5.4%. On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.3% in September, moderating from a 0.5% increase in August.
